The fabulous Simple Stories 24/Seven Collection I got to create with this month. I Love the colors in this collection. 

I enjoy creating layouts based on the little things in life or simple pleasures. I captured a shot of  Jolie reading her kindle fire. Otis was relaxing on her lap as well. It was just a super cute shot. Jolie struggles with reading comprehension in school and has been working hard to bring up her reading level. Her reading level is about 1 year behind the actual grade she is in. It seems to be very common and unfortunately all my children struggled but caught up by the time they hit high school. I am not sure why they were all behind but was told it had to do with maturity. It doesn't make a parent feel real good when their children don't excel in every subject but I know she is doing the best she can and that's what counts.

There are a lot of different techniques I used on this layout. I used my new sewing machine and stitched around the page. It seems that arrows are a trend now and my machine actually has a built in arrow stitch which makes it a lot of fun to add that technique to my layouts. Of course there are a lot of layers, some stenciling and gesso, distressing, stamping and lots of embellishments from the 24/seven collection. I  also used a sketch for  inspiration of this page.

 The title of this layout is Get Lost. I want Jolie to enjoy reading and I don't think she always does. She tends to count the pages in a book and finds it to be a chore. Jolie tries to avoid it. I hope when she gets older she learns to appreciate it and get lost in the story almost like she does when she watches a movie.

Camera's seem to be a trend as well. How cute is that Simple Stories layered sticker?  Banners are hot as well and love this chipboard sticker.  I love a lot of dimension on my layouts but it doesn't always make it easy to fit in page protectors though.

Alas, I am hanging my head in shame (well sorta).  Valentine's Day & our Curious Cupid celebration got the best of me this year and I only got 2 more cards made from my goodie pack.  Good news is that this coming week is school vacation, so you may still see a few more creations! :)

Today would have been my dad's 65th birthday, so to honor him I made this birthday card.  Don't you just adore the clean lines and perky feeling of this card?!?!?! :)   My dad was a Miami Vice fan- the early years when the guys wore pink.  He even had one of those pastel pink shirts.  He was a fashion forward kinda guy and I think the pink on this card would have really amused him. ;)

The other card I managed to squeak out just under my self-imposed deadline was this "Hello Friend" card.  The 100% Girl paper is my favorite and I really wanted to see how it would look as a base for a fabulously layered card!  Wouldn't this make a great "get well", "thank you", or just "cheer your day" card?  I love those "just cause" cards.  They are an unexpected surprise of love in your mailbox.  Makes the whole day better. :)

Wow, what a weekend!  Groundhog Day has us seeing 6 more weeks of winter (if you live in MA and believe Ms. G) or an early spring (if you believe Phil from PA).  Superbowl Sunday with a power outage delaying the game (who hit the wrong switch?!?).  Now there is a big sale at The Hen's Den!  Charlie is desperate to make room for all the new CHA goodies and is slashing prices on Fabulous goodies! :)  That means you're in luck 'cause the goods used in today's creations are ON SALE!!!!

Have you ever given yourself a personal challenge to see how much you can make using just the goodies in front of you?  That's what I'm doing for my posts this month.  My goal is to see if I can get at least 11 cards made using just what's in the photo above (I get to add ink, adhesive, & stamps though- a girl has to have some wiggle-room after all. LOL!)

For this Peace, Love & Happiness 2 U card I cut the Orange Mini Dots 4 1/8" X 5 3/8" and mounted it directly to the dark brown card base.  The next layer is the Sassy paper cut 1 3/4" x 5 with a piece of 100% Girl cut 1 1/2" x 4 3/4" glued to the center and foam taped onto the dots.  The Fabulous Flash Card, with the peace sentiment, is foam taped next.  The 2 U is from the Expression Stickers.

For this Hey Girlfriend card I again cut the Orange Mini Dots 4 1/8" X 5 3/8" and mounted it directly to the dark brown card base.  The next layer also uses the Sassy paper cut 1 3/4" x 5, but I flipped to the other side of the paper and again used a piece of 100% Girl cut 1 1/2" x 4 3/4" glued to the center and foam taped onto the dots.  Once again, the Fabulous Flash Card, with the lil' birdie speech bubble, is foam taped next.  The words, blue flower, and universal woman symbol are all from the Expression Stickers.

This last hi there luv! card, (say it with me folks) uses the Orange Mini Dots cut 4 1/8" X 5 3/8" and mounted it directly to the dark brown card base.  I changed it up on this next layer!!! :) Both pieces are layer is the 100% Girl paper cut 1 3/4" x 5 AND 1 1/2" x 4 3/4", but the bottom is the flower side and the top is the striped side.  They are once again centered atop each other, glued, and foam taped onto the dots.  Change up time!  The next layer is a die cut heart from pink Bazzill paper.  I crumpled it to give more depth and then adhered it to the card.  Next, you guessed it, we're using the Fabulous Flash Card, with the envelope, and foam taping it to the top.  The words are all letters from the Expression Stickers.  

*****Now you'll want to hurry in to The Hen's Den to get these goodies because the Expression Stickers are already gone!!!!  That's how good of a sale is happening!

I love snooping around in collectible/antique stores.  You can find some of the most wonderful stuff and then ideas spring to life.  I was in on of our local stores, Pole Barn Primitives, and found this really cool serving tray.  It was pretty ratty, as the felt under the glass had rotted away and in the process discolored the glass.  I took it home, dismantled it and scrub the glass real good and tore out all that ratty material. Now all that is it is missing are the pictures. (you won't be serving coffee with this now)

 

 

All the paper is under the glass.  Once I had the layout completed, I put it all back together and then added my embellishments to the top side of the glass. 

 



 

Here is a close up of the corner cluster.  You can also see that I left the paint in it "Old" condition.   I love playing with this stuff, makes my heart sing.

Heating Up in the Cold

Good Morning Folks, Moriah here with a hot idea on a chilly winter's day!  It's been a snowy time here in New England and there's nothing like some snow to give me a good excuse to pull out my hot cocoa. :)  I love me some cocoa when the white stuff is flying- of course I love it most when I can watch the stuff fall from inside whilst sitting by the fire, but I digress...

The hot cocoa I was sipping also got me thinking about Valentine's Day.  See in February my fellow teachers and I celebrate Curious Cupid (think Secret Santa valentine-style).  It's been a tradition at my school since way before I started there and I LOVE it!  Curious Cupid makes for a fun lead up to the holiday and makes for a cheery distraction from the snow for all of us teachers.  So why did the cocoa make me think of it?

Well we have 3 mini gift days and then the Big Reveal day.  The first 3 days we are only supposed to spend $5 or less and the big day isn't supposed to be more than $15.  That isn't an easy feat to begin with, never mind in New England where things can get expensive quickly. So last year at around this time I was thinking "wouldn't cocoa be a fun inexpensive treat", but then I thought "how to I make it pretty & special vs. plain & boring"?  A quick search of Pinterest and I came across this cute packaging idea. :)

Basically the paper is a wrap for the cocoa and the ribbon is a pull-tab to get the cocoa packet out.  I cut the first layer of paper 8"X 5.5" and then cut an additional paper about 8"X 3.5".  I layered the smaller on top of the larger and scored one of the narrow edges at .5" and then again at 4.25".  Everything got folded and the smaller tab gets some adhesive.  Glue together and voila!  You have a pocket to slide your cocoa packet- but wait!  Se where the ribbon is at the top of both packets?  You'll need to punch a hole through the top of both side of the pocket and feed ribbon through the holes.  The cocoa packet will rest on the ribbon inside the pocket, so once you have enough ribbon sticking out of both sides, slide your cocoa into the pocket and tie a bow.  When that special recipient wants to break into their cocoa all they have to do is pull the ribbon up and the packet slides out. :)  Cool huh!  Don't forget to embellish with a tag so your cocoa buddy remembers you and smiles while enjoying their hot cup of yummy chocolate goodness.

Supplies:

Paper- 100% Girl, Bingo Cards/Stripes (Simple Stories), White cardstock (Neena), & Goldenrod cardstock (unknown)

Card base- Vanilla Bean (Memory Box)

Copics- R35, R22, YG13, YG17, E27

Image- Pine Trees (Artful Stamper)

Ribbon- Satin/Grosgrain 1.5” Lime Green (May Arts)

Ink- Tuxedo Black (Memento)

Adhesive- ZipDry, foam tape & Score-Tape

Instructions:

Preparing your card components:

1. Cut the following pieces (1 each, per card):

● 100% Girl- 4” x 5¼”

● Bingo Cards/Stripes- 3¾” x 5”

● Goldenrod cardstock- 3¼” x 4”

● White cardstock (use Copic friendly) – 3” x 3¾”

● Ribbon-~5½”

Assembling your page/card/project:

1.    Adhere Bingo Card/Stripes paper to the 100% Girl paper, making sure to leave 1/8” border.

2.    With foam tape, adhere 100% Girl paper/Bingo Card/Stripes paper to Vanilla Bean card base, making sure to leave a 1/8” border.  Set aside.

3.    Stamp pine tree image to white cardstock with Memento Ink.

4.    Stamp sentiment to white cardstock.

5.    Gather your Copics.  Pretend you are back in nursery school.  Starting at the bottom of the image scribble each color, in rainbow stripes fashion, in this order.  E27, YG17, YG13, R22, R35.  You’ll want to slightly overlap the colors so that they blend a little with each other.  

6.    Adhere image to Goldenrod paper and adhere ribbon to back of Goldenrod paper so that each end has some ribbon sticking out.  Using foam tape, adhere all these layers to the center of the card.

7.    Repeat 5 more times and you have a beautiful set of cards to gift that teacher, hostess, friend, or last minute oops-I-forgot someone!

8.    Pair with some colorful envelopes and package your set with a ribbon wrap, in a clear box, or wrapped in tissue and placed in a cute gift bag.

9.    Sit back and smile.  You have an awesome gift ready to go and there are still 10 shopping days left!!! :)

My Grand Daughter turns 1 year old on December 1st and we have so many pictures, that this was a perfect kit to put together.  Keeping the colors neutral, I used lots of ribbon, tags for marking special occasions and room for your journaling as well.  

This kit is made using The Hens Den Classy Chic Album.  There are 8 pages to this album.  That means you have 16 pages to document and tell your story,  There are single photo pages and multiple photo pages.

The flowers are by Petaloo and we carry a wide variety in the store for your other projects.  The ribbon is from May Arts and we have a large section in the store as well.

Cutting Directions:
1.  Cut cream card stock to 5 1/2 X 8 1/2" and fold in half.
2.  Cut cranberry card stock 3 1/2 X 5".
3.  Cut olive card stock 4 3/4 X 3 1/4".
4.  Cut Simple Stories Home Sweet Home paper 4 1/2" wide by 3" high.  Plan your cut so that you have some of each of the cranberry, olive and cream colors.

Assembly Directions:
1.  Add a very thick layer of the crackle paint to the birdhouse and two of the birds.  I made sure my birds would be facing different directions.  After the paint was on I poked through the eyes of the birds and all the holes in the birdhouse so you could see the intricacies of the design.
2.  Once crackle paint is thoroughly dry, apply Walnut Stain ink with a foam applicator over the three chipboard pieces and set aside to dry.
3.  Fold cream card stock in half and ink the edges.
4.  Layer cranberry, olive and then Home Sweet Home papers and adhere to center of the card.
5.  Thread the Maya Road ribbon through the hole in the top of the birdhouse and use the Tiny Attacher to staple it together.
6.  Cut a length of the Cranberry ribbon 5 1/2" and glue down with the bottom part of the ribbon at 1" down from the top of the card.
7.  Locate the cherish ticket on the sticker strip and cut it out.  Pop it up in the right hand corner of the card.
8.  Attach birdhouse to center of your card and a bird on either side.
