Teresa Collins - Fabrications, Altered Bird House by Lori McClellan

Fabrications Linen Bird House

Featuring Teresa Collins Fabrication line

Can you believe that this amazing bird house started out as this?

Do you recognize it?  It began as a kids project from The Home Depot.  I had an extra after a cub scout activity and after watching the boys put them together, I knew what I wanted to do with mine.  Although you may not be able to get your hands on the same kit, this technique can be used with any unfinished wood project.  To begin, I used a drill to cut the holes for the door and the peg to turn my shed into a bird house.  Next I painted the entire thing black.

Next I cut strips from the Teresa Collins Fabrication line, that would fit on the slats of the sides of the house.  I layed them out before gluing them on to make sure I liked the way the patterns were layed out. I wanted a good variety, and with this gorgeous  paper line, it was so easy.

The next thing is to modge podge the strips of paper on to the bird house.  I put a small amount to modge podge and stuck the strips down.  After they were dry, I added modge podge on top of the paper strips.
This part was a bit tedious, but I wanted to distress my paper and some of the paint.  I took sand paper and distressed the paper and wood.  The look is really worth the time.
Pull out the tools and nail your birdhouse together.
Grab your circle punch and punch to make the roof pieces.  I used 2 different patterned papers.  To give the roof a bit of dimension, I rolled the circle around my paint brush before modge podging it onto the roof.

This is the best part, embellishing your adorable bird house.  I used some ribbon, petaloo flowers and Teresa Collins stickers.  Isn't this one of the cutest things ever?
