October Cup Of the Month 2013

October Cup of the Month 2013

We have slacked off over the past several months on a project that we had so much fun with.   So, we are going to start up again.

This month features Graphic 45's Steampunk Spells Collection.  We have had so much fun with this line making all kinds of projects so it was fitting to use it for the cup of the month.

I really struggled with taking pictures that did not have a glare, so if you have any hints, please share them.

If you want to make your own cup of the month, find a cup that allows you to put pictures inside.  I found mine at Starbucks.  The bottom comes off and inside was a black template.  Be careful when you remove this as it will be your working piece for all future projects.   I traced mine onto a thin piece of chipboard to preserve the template.

Here are the two templates.  Notice that little tag on the bottom, that is what is used to pull out the piece from inside of the cup.  Make sure you make one for the one that you will be putting inside.  You will need this to pull that back out again.

Now... I learned something.   You CANNOT layer much or put really thick items in, such as ribbon.  I really struggled to get mine back inside of the cup casing.  Maybe some have bigger innards, hopefully your does.

Here are a few more pictures:

Here you can see the ribbon and the laying.  Good idea but was tough getting inside the cup.

I tried to get a picture of the back that I fussy cut from the paper collection but that darn glare.  Oh well, we are learning.  :)

Well, that is my first attempt... Next month I hope to have a better project.   Play along and post your pictures to our Facebook page and lets have some fun with this.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Happy Monday!  Today I have my last Graphic 45 French Country creation to share with you. :)  When I was down at The Cape last week we were talking about reading, 'cause of course teachers LOVE to read, and who reads in a book vs. kindle/iPad app.

Here's a quick reminder of the goody pile I got from Charlie that helped inspire this project. :)

All that talk got me thinking about how I need a new bookmark!  I've been tutoring this summer and the books we are reading together are all hardcopy rather than electronic.  Good excuse to whip out my goodies and create this little gem.

When I showed my husband what I made his response was "Wow!  That seems too nice for a book."  Well my response "Nothing is too nice for a book!". *smile*

Graphic 45- French Country- Birthday Cards by Moriah Macdonald

Bon Anniversaire Cards
Featuring- Graphic 45 French Country Collection

Birthdays & anniversaries in July are very popular with my friends and family.  Pretty much every week there are one or two (sometimes four!)  Sadly, I usually don't remember the birthday until after it has passed!!!!  Sit down folks.  This time I am pleased to say that I have remembered two birthdays that are happening this week and have cards ready to go!

This Graphic 45 French Country Collection is yummy!  I knew right away that these papers would be perfect for the two birthdays on the calendar.  Can't go wrong with sunflowers, roosters, and pears for the folks celebrating their special day this week.  One is for a gal that grew up on a farm and the other is for a gal who started a soup kitchen at her church.

Each pattern paper is framed with the same shade of burgundy cardstock to help make the patterns less overpowering.  The flower dies that come in this collection made for a fun extra dimension and those bees.  I love 'em.  Had to use them for the centers 'cause they are soooo pretty!!!

My words of wisdom for today- check you calendar.  Who needs a French Country card this week?

Here are some goodies to get you started!

Together

Prima Marketing Lyric Collection - Together Layout
Prima Marketing Lyric Collection
Designed by Anita L. Mulcahey

Here is a layout that I did from our wonderful trip to Jamaica.  I adore my hubby and we had such a romantic day.  Everyone thought we were celebrating something big and kept asking us.  We were, celebrating our love and the fun that we always have together.  I love how the moon is captured in the background and the way it matches these papers so perfectly.  I don't know how long Charlie is going to be able to keep these in The Hens' Den store so I would definitely get mine while I could.  I love how the word together came out so pretty on these papers using my Silhouette.  Have a great weekend everyone.

This is my last project with this lovely collection from The Hens' Den store and I am sad to see it go.  I might have to see if I can get more.  I was supposed to be scrapping with a dear friend on Cape Cod for our annual trip and had to leave on Friday because I had the stomach bug.  I felt better on Saturday and we got together at my house and I made this card then.  I was so glad to be able to work the post card calendar onto a card.

I love this line so much and was able to pick up some extra paper so that I could complete this ten page mini album.  I used my Silhouette and a Lori Whitlock file to complete this book all out of paper.  It looks so lovely and I had so much fun reliving the wonderful trip that we had.  I used Pic Monkey to put the photos of the pages into two collages.  I love how they came out.

If you haven't picked up these papers yet, I don't want you to wait any more, they are flying off the
shelves at The Hens' Den store.

French Country by Grapic 45 - Altered cabinet

Primitive Cabinet by
Unknown (hehe)

I found this cabinet, while out looking at collectible and antique items, several months back.  It has been hanging around since.  I know when I found it I wanted to make a really cool but functional display case for my store and some of the goodies I carry.  All I needed was just the right paper.  Along came Graphic 45 and their newest release, French Country.  The colors were perfect because the cabinet was painted in a soft green and then distressed with a darker green. I really like the colors and did not want to have to repaint the entire thing.  French Country filled the bill.

Here are some "before" pictures.

Green and not really pretty but there was so much potential.  I just simply loved how it was made.

Here are some "after" pictures.

Ok it is looking better but you need to see some of the close ups.  I spent some time on the metal flowers from Graphic 45.  I used several different embossing powders to color them and fit them in with the paper line.  I also used sprays from the Petaloo line. I fussy cut the Rooster and placed him against the mesh so that he sat back off the front of the door.

Here are some close ups:

The Rooster:

This cluster is on the bottom of the cabinet.  I used soft embossing powders to use with the paper flowers from Graphic 45

In this cluster, I used black and white embossing powders and clustered the flower with flowers from the French Country collection.  This is on the right side of the door.

This cluster is on the top of the cabinet.  Using Red and Sea Foam white and Celery embossing powders, I wanted to pick up colors from the paper flower collection in the French Country line.

This cluster is on the left side of the door.  Using Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade embossing powders this flower went in with the Sunflower cluster from the paper line.

Here are a few more pictures from the sides and other angles.

I hope you enjoyed viewing my project and I really hope it inspires you to do something really cool with a piece of furniture that you may have that you really want to change.

Always remember, we have a lot of really cool stuff to buy over at The Hens Den

Have a VERY crafty day

Purple is my most favorite color and I was so pleased to see this gorgeous line.  You can check it out for yourself at The Hens' Den.  I have so many wonderful friends and I am grateful for each and every one and all the wonderful things that they bring to enrich my life.  I am blessed.  This line is so springy and gorgeous and I knew that I just had to make a card for a friend who is struggling right now.

Tomorrow is Spotlight Tuesday and on Wednesday you will get to see Design Team member Stephanie Wagner's take on Lori's awesome sketch.

Near and Far Album using Graphic 45 - Secret Garden Collection

Near and Far Album
Created by Charlie LaBonte
I had so much fun making this album.  A young lady that I work with is getting married this June (actually they got married in Las Vegas in December..hehe) and they are such a sweet couple to know.  Nils is in the Army and is so far away, yet close enough for Elena to fly to see him on long weekends.  We had her bridal shower recently and she is so not comfortable in large groups.  So nice so see such sweetness.  This album will give her something to documents special moments and keep for years to come.

I love this picture.  It has such a statement if you really look at it.  Near and Far...Coming and going... I am very proud of Nils and Elena.  They have  been apart and have never lost their love for each other.  I wish them many blessings for their future.

Love playing with paints, embossing powders and bling.  This paper line also fit right in with her colors.
Different picture sizes make for better attention getters, I think.
I kept the embellishments light so that they did not over power the importance of the story.  There is a story about the back side of the ribbon on the left page.  I tattle on myself later on.
Love Corrugated paper. You can do so many things with it but for this I kept it very simple.  But I can tell you I really wanted to ink, paint and mess it up... a lot!
Journaling cards are so cute in this collection.  I love the softness of this entire collection.
I used one of Martha Stewarts photo corner cutting tools.  Folded them and then taped them in place. Now all Elena has to do is slip in the photo and if she wants to change it out or move it, she can.

The journaling cards are so sweet in this collection.  I love the soft color that are in this entire collection.
Elena's bridal invitation made for a perfect subject on the canvas page.  I also used Petaloo's Color me Crazy Corner  piece, coloring it to match her invitation.
Here is where I have to tattle on myself.  I had cut the binder holes on the wrong side and having already put the paper and photo mat in place, I hid my boo boo by placing a nice big bow there.  Now, tell me that you have never had to hide a mistake....lol

I also used Tim Holtz Curio Knobs and Graphic 45 Key Hole and keys.  Small accents to add depth and texture.

Thank you for stopping by and remember, we have lots of goodies for sale in the store and would love it if you would shop with us.   Have a super day!!!
