So, without further ado......Here is my take on the sketch, one step at a time.

 

(2) 12 x 12 pages, with a shared, square houndstooth, accent layer. 

 A big strip across the top where I am going to put the pictures.  (Polka dots make me happy!!)

 Another strip below it using the cute flower paper.

 Woops, I lost a few of the inbetween pics, but I added a second strip of gray with tiny white dots, white lace and then the pictures of my cute kids in their Egg shaped glasses.

I designed the title and cut it out of vinyl.  I added more embellishments and some journaling.  Simple, yet the simplicity allows the photos to be the focal point of the layout.

I've said it before, I LOVE My Minds Eye, and this collectable collection is so bright and beautiful.  Here is what I had to work with.  

When I pulled out my supplies, I had a different project in mind, but as I tried to decide how to get started the Unforgettable Journal paper was SCREAMING at me!  It sounds weird, but paper talks to me (occasionally I talk back).  This particular sheet was begging me to let it become a mini.  I don't often do mini albums, but I figured why not and got started.

  This is how my family found me, still in my PJ's, with major bed-head, bra-less (because if we're being honest, it's the most comfortable way to work), scrap supplies spread out on the floor, and the most adorable mini coming together before my eyes.  I LOVE when inspiration hits me and a project just comes together.

Unforgettable story Journaling sheet  by MME

The Unforgettable Story Journaling sheet is (12) 3 x 4 cards.  To start my album I cut them apart to become my pages.  Since that would make a pretty small album, I decide to mount them on slightly bigger pages.  Using the coordinating papers from the collectable collection I cut pages 4 x 5 to mount the cards on.  With the coordinating stickers, enamel dots, and twine from My Minds Eye All is Bright line, this is how the adorable mini came out.

Here is a picture of the fun products I get to work with this month.  I am so excited to get to play with My Minds Eye Collectible collection.  The papers and embellishments in this collection are BEE-U-TI-FUL!!!!  I am doing a 2 part project with this collection so stay tuned for a second part coming later this week.

I was so lucky to be able to help out in The Hens Den booth at the CKC scrapbook expo last week in Portland.  I had so many new ideas when I left after spending 2 days surrounded by gorgeous paper and embellishments.  Although washi tape is the newest, coolest trend in scrapbooking and paper crafting, I had yet to collect any.  The Hens Den has quite an assortment of washi tape available, and it found myself leaving the expo with a small collection.  As fate would have it, on my flight home from Portland, I was lucky to sit next to Megan Hoepner, editor from Creating Keepsakes magazine.  I admitted to her that I was having a love affair with washi tape, but had yet to play with it.  She was SO SWEET and pulled out her phone and shared with me some of her washi tape projects.  Once again, I was so full of new ideas and ways I hadn't even thought to use washi tape.  I have been holding on to this 8 x 8 matchbook box from graphic 45 for a while and I knew that I wanted to used the washi tape for this project.  It was so easy!!  I just started laying down the tape one after the other.  I could not believe how easy it was and what a great look you got.

 My Minds Eye has these 3 tapes together in one package.  I added the pink petaloo flower and really, does it need more?  As I said this is a 2 part project, so watch for the second half coming later in the week.  I hope that this gives you some fresh ideas.

I am so excited to be sharing a new take in the March chic sketch.  I did the left page of the sketch last time, and so this time I tried a layout using the right side of the sketch.

So as you can tell, I did not add any pictures to my layout.  That is A-OK in my book.  Here are you my top reasons why I love to have a bunch of premade layouts.

1.  I like to have pre-made layouts on hand for when I get my pictures printed, I can quickly add a photo and be done with a page. 

2.  I like to give pre-made pages in an album as gifts.  (Especially for my friends and family who don't scrapbook, they can easily add their own photos and have an amazing, personalized album.

3.  Sometimes I see a sketch or have an idea that I'm afraid I will lose or forget, so by making a blank layout, you have it when you are ready to use it down the road.

4.  I love my pretty paper, but if I hold on to it and don't use it, chances are I will just hoard it.  By making a blank layout, I will already have a beautiful  piece just waiting for the right pictures.

5.  I take pictures to match the layouts I already have done.  It makes choosing the right color clothing and accessories so easy!

6.  I love to make page packets using sketches, so when I go to an expo or just sit down to scrapbook  I can pull out all the co-ordinating papers, sketch and embellishments and throw them together.  Easy.  Fast.

I was so lucky to get to work with the Fancy Pants - Country Boutique line this month.  Here is a picture of my kit.

As I thought about what kind of project I wanted to do, I was struck by all the flag and pendant shapes that Fancy Pants has with this line.  I love them and use these as elements in my sketches quite often, but rarely use them myself.  I remembered a sketch I did for Teresa Collins blog a few months ago and decided that it was time for me to actually do a project with the flags.  You can find the post and sketch here.

This fancy pants line has so many great pattern papers,  it was easy to put this together.  I love the non-traditional colors, all the cute die cut shapes,  and how the crochet ribbon from May arts looks like it was meant to be part of this collection.

Fancy Pants Valentine bottle hanger By Lori McClellan

Lori here with a great Valentine's Day gift idea. 

My husband is REALLY hard to shop for, but I know that I can't go wrong with a fun evening out and food.  I used the Fancy Pants Country Boutique to make this bottle holder gift.

So begin by gathering your supplies.

Fancy Pants - Country Boutique - Black corrugate sheet 
Fancy Pants - Country Boutique - Lydia
Fancy Pants - Country Boutique - Die cuts
May Arts - Black/White 1/2" ribbon
Sewing Machine and red thread
Adhesive
Circle hole punch

Create the pocket out of the black corrugate sheet.  Cut a small piece of the Lydia paper to fit on the front pocket.  I drew a heart with a pencil, then used my sewing machine to sew the shape.  I went over it 2 times to help define the shape.

I loved the ticket from the Fancy Pants Country boutique die cut pack that said Good times, admit one.....It was PERFECT for this project!  I mounted it red cardstock  and adhered it to the Lydia paper.  I tied the May Arts Black and white ribbon around the card too, then I sewed again the parts that covered up the heart.  I cut the holder into the shape of a tag, and punched a hole at the top.

Now all that was left to do was write a note on the red cardstock tag, fill it with some fun stuff, (in this case chocolate and a gift card for dinner), and give it as a gift.  This would also make a great gift for a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday gift....whatever!

I have to admit, I love making Valentines.  This is one of my favorite things to do with my kids.  It has become tradition to mass produce the class valentines on Super Bowl sunday.  While the guys watch the football game, the girls craft the night away.  In my opinion, it is a total win-win situation!  

So as the big day approaches, I am starting to plan out some Valentine ideas, and I thought I would share with you.  If you order supplies from The Hens Den, with their super fast shipping you can have all your supplies you need in time for a Super Bowl scrap-fest of your own.

Start by gathering your supplies.

Sewing machine (optional)

Circle punch

Create your pocket by folding a cardstock rectangle in half.  Sew around 3 sides, leaving one for an opening.  Use the circle punch to cut the tab at the top.  Tie the burlap ribbon on the side.

The base is a Tim Holtz journaling tag.  The Teresa Collins, I love you sticker, is popped up on the tag.  And to finish it off, I used a petaloo flower.  Add some adhesive to the back and stick the tag to the pocket.

All that's left is to add your name in the blank space on the tag, fill it with treats and give it someone you love.

Ever wish you had a starting place when you sit down to scrap?  I know that I do, and having a sketch  makes it SO much easier to get started.  This year I will be developing sketches to help us over some of our scrapping hurdles.

Today I have a sketch for all of you to play with.  I know that most of us have a box or drawer full of pictures that are waiting to be preserved.  This sketch has places for multiple pictures.  Getting more than one picture on the page is a great way to get started.

 

 

Does this sketch look familiar?   When I was preparing my post for the blog, I found myself stumped and turned to this sketch.  I wanted a layout I could use several pictures on.  Also I had this beautiful line from Teresa Collins and it begged to become a Christmas layout. 

 

The Hens' Den has so many beautiful product lines that this sketch comes together with 3-5 sheets of coordinating papers and a couple of embellishments to complete the theme your page takes on.

"Hope" bottle cap ornament by Lori McClellan

"HOPE" Bottle Cap ornament

I know the holidays are nearly behind us, but here is a fun project you can pin and try next year.

For my ornament, I used bits and pieces from my stash.  I don't know about you, but I save scraps of my pretty paper, and the bits of embelishment sheets that I have left over.  This is a great project that came together from bits of leftovers of my favorite Hens Dens lines.

1. I happened to have bottle caps in my crafty hoard otherwise know as my "office".  I though they would be a great foundation for my ornament.  I used my crop-a-dile to punch a hole in the top.
2. I found this round sticker from a sheet of Teressa Collins sticker embellishments, and stuck it in place.  It fit perfect!
3. It's pretty plain at this point, what can I add?  I dug through my box and found the red Petaloo flower.  It was to big for the front, but I loved it behind the cap, so I added alot of glue and glued it in place.
4. Still it needed more, but it was coming together.  I pulled out the Graphic 45 happy haunting sticker sheet and loved the little black sticker letters.  I spelled the word HOPE.  You could write anything you want.  What about a tree full of inspirational words, LOVE, JOY, PIECE (as in a big piece of fudge)?  Luckily you have 364 more days to perfect it and make it you.
5. Throw on a coat of glossy accents, let it dry and there you have it, and fabulous heirloom quality ornament that your kids can fight over some day.
