It's Saturday, whew, I'm so glad.  We are getting Patrick from North Carolina today and I will be happy to have him back because it has been so quiet here.

When Charlie asked us last month what kit we would like to work with this month, I spent about 2 hours trying to figure it out because she has such great products in the store.  I eventually decided to use Prima Marketing Lyric Collection.  I hadn't worked with this collection before and am so glad I picked it because it is so beautiful and the colors are so gorgeous. 

I created a card using this wonderful collection for a get well soon card for my friend who is going through chemotherapy to help rid her of the pancreatic cancer she has.  She is doing well and is looking great, but the best thing is her spirits are still up.

This is going to be a short post because I'm going to go spend some time with my boy.  I hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend.

When Charlie asked us last month what kit we would like to work with this month, I spent about 2 hours trying to figure it out because she has such great products in the store.  I eventually decided to use Prima Marketing Lyric Collection.  I hadn't worked with this collection before and am so glad I picked it because it is so beautiful and the colors are so gorgeous.

My friend, Anita, is on the design team at cardabilities and when I saw her creation for this week's challenge, knew I would have to join in, because it is a great sketch and worked great for this collection.  I have to participate in these challenges more often because they are so much fun.

I love the specials touches to this collection.  Love the music note clips and the paper - I love music and this is right up my alley.

Here is my full card.  I am going to send it to my friend who has started chemo recently and am hoping this will put a smile on her face.

When Charlie asked us last month what kit we would like to work with this month, I spent about 2 hours trying to figure it out because she has such great products in the store.  I eventually decided to use Prima Marketing Lyric Collection.  I hadn't worked with this collection before and am so glad I picked it because it is so beautiful and the colors are so gorgeous.  

It was very difficult, however, to use these papers because they are so pretty that it was hard to put anything on them :)  When I was going through the kit Charlie sent me, however, I just knew what photo I was going to use and couldn't wait to get started.  

My sister Elaine, is such an inspiration to me and just knew these papers and her beautiful face would work great together.  We are 8 years apart, I being the oldest, but we are so close that we have this twin type of relationship - I can usually tell when something is wrong on her end and vice-versa, even though we are 3 hours apart.   

I also decided to make my own flowers using some of the paper.  I have seen a lot of crafters make their own, but am going to admit this was the first time I have done it and it was so much fun.  I did get a little help with the spellbinders die cut, but hey, it's a start.

I took the word "friend" that was on a sheet of the decorative paper, cut it out and crumbled it up a little before putting it under her picture, then placed the "love" button on top of that and really like how that turned out.  I am going to start using a lot more texture in my layout pages.

Happy Friday - WOO-HOO :)  I hope you are all ready for the weekend.  I know I am because I'm going to do a lot of creating the next few days.  When Charlie asked us which kit we would like to receive for this month's projects, I looked at the store and Teresa Collins' Memories line kept calling me and am so glad this is the one I picked, because it is lovely.  The colors are just adorable and I love the embellishments that go along with it.

My great friend Nancy celebrated her birthday this week and when I was showing her this kit after it came into the office, I knew I was going to use these goodies for a card for her.  I am really pleased with how it turned out and do believe it went over well :)

Well, today is the day - it's Friday :) and I can't be happier because I have a lot of creating in my weekend plans.  Wow, what a week.  Today, I am going to show you the second page of my two-page layout using the My Mind's Eye Collectable - Unforgettable collection and the March Chic sketch that my fellow design team member Lori created.  I really enjoyed using this sketch and they have been placed in my sketch book to use again in the future.

I decided to do something different with my page, in that, I put a 2" strip of the Graphic 45 Coredinations "signature series" bon voyage cardstock in the middle of my Bazill yellow 12 x 12 cardstock and then covered the seams with the wonderful May Arts ribbon.  I love how it breaks it up to give it some color.  Also, instead of having the individual strips separate  decided to join them together and put them in the corners of the layout.

There are so many wonderful elements in this kit, I wanted to use them all, but didn't want to clutter it too much.  

You can see in the full layout several pictures of the cowboys who, after their street fight, decided to have Elizabeth and Jared as prisoner's and then the knife wound up near my neck (how in the world that happened, I have no idea) - if you look close at that specific picture, you will see my hands are balled up in fist :)  I'm a nervous sort.  This will give you only a small example of how much fun it was in our house as these two were growing up - they were always putting on a show :)  I miss that so much, but Patrick is really good at putting on a show as well :)

A New Chic Sketch for The Hens' Den designed by Design Team Member: Lori McClellan

Happy 1st Monday of March everyone.  Can you believe I am saying that?  Me neither.  Today is my day to bring you a project using The Hens' Den Chic Sketch, Created by Design Team Member Lori McClellan while using the new My Mind's Eye Collectable - Unforgettable collection.  I was so excited when I opened up my kit and found all these goodies inside - I love everything about it.

Isn't this new Chic sketch from The Hens' Den sketch great, created by Design Team Member Lori McClellan?  I love it and hope you will give it a try (please let us know if you do so we can take a peek).  I'm going to show you my completed layout in two parts so as to not overload you with so much fun - LOL :)  The one I'm showing you today is the title page.

We had taken Jared and Elizabeth to Ghost Town in The Sky years ago and when I went through my kit, came across this unique cardstock (well, it is to me) and an idea came to me.  I took a rectangle piece of brown Graphic 45 "Signature Series" Core'dinations cardstock, tore it down to the size I wanted, crumbled it up, distressed it with sandpaper and some Tim Holtz vintage photo ink and voilà, I got a faux leather look :)  I found the parks' name off their website, printed it out and place it on top of that.  What do you think?  I was pleased with the result.

While working on setting up my layout, I had it lined up with the strips going like what is on the new Chic sketch from The Hens' Den sketch great, created by Design Team Member Lori McClellan had  on the sketch, but after looking at it, I just couldn't get it to look right, so took those strips and put them underneath each picture.  I think it turned out pretty good.

This is a great  My Mind's Eye Collectable - Unforgettable collection that has lots of fun goodies to play with and look forward to using this collection often.  I am excited about showing you the rest of my take on this fun sketch soon.

Ever since I joined The Hens' Den Design Team, I have been doing a lot of creative first :)  I did a calendar page, faux postage technique and now another first, a layout of our beautiful daughter, Elizabeth.  You say, are you serious?  Well, embarrassingly yes.  She is 25 years old and I have been scrapbooking for over 13 years now but this is her very first scrapbook page.  I, however, am very happy with how it turned out.  When Charlie asked us for ideas of what kit we wanted to create with this month, I knew I had to have the Bo Bunny Country Garden collection because it says Elizabeth all over the place.  Her favorite colors are pink, purple and neon green and she loves butterflies.  When I showed her the kit, she loved it and was very excited about getting her page :)

Now the hard part for me was trying to figure out what to use on the page because I wanted to use everything, I mean look at all the goodies I received.  You can see why it was a difficult decision.  I decided to use two sheets of cardstock as my base and work from there.  When I saw the large butterfly on the corner of one of the patterned paper sheets, had to use it as a focal point, but wanted to do more with it.  I took some Tim Holtz tattered rose and milled lavender distress powders to bring it out more (LOVE using Tim Holtz' powder - it looks so wonderful IRL). 

But I didn't stop with that, the ribbon I received was just to beautiful not to include.  I really struggled with where to put this because as hard as I tried, I couldn't get a bow made with it, but running it across the bottom and topping it off with the trinket worked out great.  I also added several butterfly trinkets on her picture, which I thought brought it together so well. 

I could go on and on about the awesome items in this kit, but I'm going to stop here and let you take a look at my completed layout so you can see for yourself just how wonderful they are.  I hope you enjoy the layout of our "princess".

Featuring My Minds Eye - All is Bright Christmas collection

Today is my first post as a design team member for The Hens Den and I couldn't be more excited.  I am going to have a lot of fun working with these talented ladies.

This is my first project for The Hens Den and it is somewhat different from what I typically make; however, I thoroughly enjoyed working on a new and interesting project.  I have always wanted to create individual calendar pages to place on my desk and after seeing the kit I received from Charlie, knew it would be perfect for a December calendar page.  So, I took this opportunity to create just that for December 2013.  

I approached this project by starting with an off-white 8x8 square and inked the edges with Garden Green ink.  After cutting two 5x5 squares, one in red and one in green, I decided to embellish the red square as a gift box - to do this, I cut a 2.5 inch piece of red dotted paper and set it across the red square.  I then took the beautiful May Arts green ribbon and tied it around my box.  To finish it off, I placed a Tim Holtz's Christmas adornment on top.  

I found the mini calendar online and distressed it using the same ink and added three rhinestones under December 25th to give it a little more pizzazz.

After assembling the calendar, I felt something was missing and decided to use a doily that I found in my vintage scrapbooking stash and placed the "Joy" ribbon sticker on top.  I also added two separate designer papers from the 6x6 paper pack in the corners to give it a little more color.  After placing the three green rhinestones from the collection in the upper right corner, felt that my individual calendar page was complete.

I am really excited to finish up the rest of my 2013 calendars and will be sure to post them as I go along.  I'm trying to determine whether to do them on a monthly basis or go ahead and get them all done at one time.  I love this My Mind's Eye collection and can't wait to use it again.
