I adore making banners!  They are an easy way to jazz up my mantle, they store fairly flat, and I can change them around to suit the month, season, or special occasion. :)  When I saw this line from Graphic 45 I just had to make my first project be a new banner!!!

Halloween is a favorite holiday of mine, but for this banner I wanted the Halloween part to play second fiddle.  Looking at the Pumpkin Time and Happy Haunting papers shouted PUMPKINS! and so after cutting the Burnt Orange large banner bases those were the banner papers I cut next, using the smaller banner die.  The banner was looking a little flat with just the two patterns, so I cut a couple more smaller banners using Trick or Treat for a total of 9 large Burnt Orange banner bases and 9 smaller patterned banners.  I mixed and matched the pattern paper to see what I liked best.  The final numbers are 3 Happy Haunting, 4 Pumpkin Time, and 2 Trick or Treat smaller banners cut.  Glue the smaller ones to the larger ones and set aside. :)

Doilies on banners are a go-to look for me, but the ones ready made I usually use were just too big.  They were covering too much of the pattern paper- which was the whole reason I wanted to make the banner in the first place! :)  To solve that problem, I die cut 9 smaller doilies.  The problem now was they seemed a little too plain.  Mr, Huey to the rescue!  I sprayed/splattered/dolloped the Mr Huey paints on each doily.  They needed a good long while to dry (or you could use the heat embosser to speed things along).

While the doilies were drying, I cut the letters on my Cricut at 2.5"  After the orange letters were cut, the green letters were cut at the same time, but with the shadow setting.  I glued the orange to the green and set the letters aside to dry along with the doilies. :)

Then I set about thinking about how to "bling" the banner.  I cut some leaves on 2.5" with the Italic setting.  The skinny leaves seemed to give a subtle spooky feeling that I really like!  Then I freehand cut and glued some rolled roses using Hallowe'en Greetings.  The centers of the roses have Orange Stickles in them for a bit of surprise.

When the doilies were dry, I glued the letters to each one.  The doilies got foam taped to the banners.
I didn't punch the holes until after the doilies were attached because I knew I had enough room, but if you were using really large doilies you migh want to make the holes first so you don't accidentally put a hole in something you need.
Each banner is either connected using orange ribbon or striped green ribbon and the ends are a dark green twill.  What can I say?  I love ribbon and wanted to use all kinds for some visual interest.  After all the letters were connected I played around adding the roses to "u" and "s" and a satin bat to "i".  Ooo, I'm so excited that my mantle looks so fallish!  Phew!  Just in time too.  It's been getting chilly and the leaves are starting to change.  Before I know it I'll be starting to put up *gasp* Christmas lights!

Well, more on that later. :)  For now I hope you have the chance to give your mantle some pumpkin love of its own.  Please make sure to link up to the HD Gallery if you do!  We'd love to see what you have made during the month of October- and you could win at $10 GC to The Hens Den store!!!!!
